Clay Cooper's new show in 2018 promises something for everyone
Branson shows are always changing. Some a little at a time. For the 2018 season, Clay Cooper decided to change his longtime favorite, Country Express show….. in a big way.
“This year we really went all out and mixed it up,” Clay explained. “Every year we change the show 90 to 95 percent with song selections, but it was always the same kind of format. This year we really gave it a total overhaul. We’ve added a new male trio called Third Power. They do Beatles and Eagles and they are great background singers.”
For years, Clay headlined his traditional country variety show. His wife, Tina, and more recently their sons, have taken on a greater onstage role. “The name of the show is Clay Cooper’s Country Express,” he said. “It’s really more than just country. Don’t get me wrong, I love traditional country music. I also know that if you are going to appeal to a wide range of people you have to offer something for everyone.” Creating a show with “something for everyone” is what the 32-year Branson veteran entertainer did.
“We have a section in the show we call our Impersonations Medley,” he added. “We do an NSYNC song and have a section where we do three of Bruno Mars’ big hits. We have 18 dancers and singers on stage all at once. We’re doing ZZ Top, The Judds and The Pointer Sisters. It’s something for everybody, but I’m still doing Haggard, Jones, Glen Campbell and Roger Miller.”
Clay said he’s excited for his loyal fans to see the new show. “We’re opening the show with a song that is really going out on a limb,” he said. “It’s from the movie The Greatest Showman and it’s not country at all. It’s so fantastic. We have had such a huge response to that song. I think it’s the best Country Express show that we have ever put together.”
In November and Devember, the show features an Ozark Mountain Christmas Celebration that has become a “must see” in Branson.
